On Oct. 31, Governor Kathy Hochul announced the selection of 144 STEM teachers for the New York State Master Teacher Program, a professional network of more than 1,700 public-school teachers with a passion for inspiring the next generation of educational leaders. Valley Central Middle School science teacher Mr. William Gunther was among the 144 teachers who were recently accepted to this program.
The New York State Master Teacher Program (NYSMTP) is a community of K-12 STEM teachers and counselors who work together to create an innovative, engaging, and supportive environment in the classroom. Mr. Gunther will engage in professional learning opportunities that are co-created by network members and their SUNY counterparts and bring these innovative ideas and opportunities into the classroom.
“I applied after attending a few conferences the NYSMTP put on and feeling invigorated and empowered to bring new material into my classroom,” said Mr. Gunther. “Having discussions with educators across grade levels and STEM content spurs so many ideas to bring back to VCSD. I will then be sharing what I learn and create with fellow educators in the NYSMTP, as well as the staff here. The application process is thorough and rigorous, and I am proud to have the opportunity to represent Valley Central,” he said.
VCHS teacher Ms. Jennie Sexton also went through the program a few years ago. Congratulations to our teachers on being chosen for this prestigious opportunity!
