Welcome back to a new school year! Summer always seems to pass so quickly. The Berea faculty and staff have been working hard to prepare for a new and exciting year. I would like to take this time to
thank all of our office staff, custodial staff, and our assistant principal Mrs. Alicia Gannello for their time and dedication to ensuring Berea is ready for an exciting new school year.
There have been some staff changes over the summer. The follow teachers will be joining us in September: Melissa Marra (grade 3), Michelle Kasak (12:1:1 grades 2-3) and Thomas Volpe (12:1:1 grades 4-5). We welcome them to Berea.
Over the course of the first few weeks of school, teachers will administer several tests to all students. The purpose of these tests is to collect baseline data to monitor progress throughout the school year. This testing includes the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) assessment, has been selected by
the District as a means of fulfilling State requirements. These assessments will provide teachers with data for each student to further enable them to develop instruction that targets student learning needs. Students will also be administered Benchmark Assessments. These assessments will indicate a student’s reading level and allow teachers to form guided reading groups in their classes to provide focused reading instruction. We will also administer a math assessment to help teachers plan their math instruction.
Our Open House is on September 13th . This will be an in person event. The evening begins at 6:30 PM with an informational meeting regarding our AIS program. At 7:00 PM, parents will go to the classrooms for teacher presentations.
