Promotion in grades kindergarten through eight shall be decided on the basis of academic accomplishment. Where age becomes a factor, promotion shall take place at the discretion of the Building Principal, who shall consult with the parents and the teachers involved.
At the 7th and 8th grade levels, any student who fails two or more major subjects must repeat the grade. The major subjects are Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. If a student in grade 7 or 8 fails one of the major subjects, he/she may be conditionally promoted. A student has until the end of summer school to meet the academic requirements of that school year.
Promotion in grades 9-12 shall be on the basis of credits earned in individual subjects. Permission for doubling in certain subjects may be granted at the discretion of the Building Principal after a review of the individual situation with the parents, the counselor, and the teachers involved.
Standardized test scores in grades 3-8 will not be the sole or primary factor in the decision to promote or retain a student.
