The Board of Education is committed to the optimization of student learning and teaching and therefore encourages the use of computers and networked information resources, including the Internet (an international network made up of smaller contributing networks) for educational purposes. The Board encourages computer network use as an integral part of the curriculum. Through software applications, on-line databases, libraries, bulletin boards and electronic mail, the network will enhance educational experience and provide statewide, national, and global communications opportunities for staff and students.
The use of school computers, software, networked information resources and/or the Internet for non-educational purposes such as for profit activity, personal business or illegal activity is prohibited.
Each student or staff member who wishes to use the various schools’ networks must establish a user (ID) account. The District attempts to assure the integrity of the use of its network and the Internet. Each account holder must agree to act responsibly and to comply with this Policy and Regulation promulgated by the Superintendent of Schools regarding access to and use of computers and networked information resources. Therefore, prior to establishing a user account, each student and staff member must sign a user agreement. In the case of students, a parent or legal guardian must also sign the user agreement. Computers and all networking resources remain the exclusive property of the District; therefore, no user has any expectation of privacy in anything created or stored on the District’s computer or e-mail systems.
The District makes no warranties of any kind, whether expressed or implied, for the service it is providing. The District will not be responsible for any damages, including the loss of data, information or files, resulting from delays, nondeliveries, misdeliveries, or service interruptions caused by the negligence, errors or omissions, by the user, the District or any third parties. The District makes no warranties for the accuracy or quality of any information obtained through the Internet.
Users shall not use the Internet for any purpose that would violate any district policy and/or regulation, or that would violate any state or federal law or regulation. Prior to students being directed by staff to use any cloud-based educational software/application, staff must get approval from the Director of Technology. The Director of Technology will determine if a formal contract is required or if the terms of service are sufficient to address privacy and security requirements.
