The Valley Central girls varsity swimming and diving team is sponsoring swim lessons in the Valley Central Natatorium. Lessons are Tuesdays and Thursdays with two sessions going from 4:00 p.m. – 4:35 p.m. and from 4:45pm – 5:20pm. Session 1 is from April 1 to 24th (no lessons Tues 4/15 or Thurs 4/17) and Session 2 is from April 29th to May 15th. The cost is $120 per child per session.
The student-to-teacher ratio will be approximately 3:1. The athletes on the girls varsity swimming and diving team are well-trained in the strokes and work well with young children. Our goal in doing this fundraiser is to allow a safe space for children of all ages in our local community to enjoy swimming, learn safety in and around the aquatic environment, and strengthen their swimming skills.

More about the lessons
This program offers two different sessions lasting three weeks, completing in six weeks total. Each session will meet six times. Parents/guardians have the option to register their children for one session, or both. The skills being taught are aligned with the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim program, however, the program is not sponsored by the American Red Cross.
During registration, please use the descriptions below to self-place your child based on their current ability level.
Level 1: No skill prerequisites. This level is for introductory aquatic skills with support from the instructors for most skills. Gaining exposure to the water, and learning basic skills like blowing bubbles, submerging, learning through play, back floats, front floats, basic arm and leg movements, with support. Level 1 is recommended for ages 4 to 6.
Level 2: This level is for fundamental aquatic skills, swimmers who are comfortable in the water but need some assistance. Swimmers who can enter and exit the water using the side or steps independently, fully submerge their head underwater and can float on their back and front independently/or with limited assistance. At this level, swimmers will learn to float independently, glide off the wall, and learn basic arm and leg movements in the water, both with alternate movements and simultaneous movements such as front crawl and back crawl. Level 2 is recommended for ages 4 to 8.
Level 3: This level is for stroke development and works on skills such as stroke technique, endurance, and comfort in deep water. Swimmers can jump into chest-deep water independently, float independently for 10-15 seconds, and can swim 5 body lengths using combined arm and leg actions independently. At this level, swimmers will learn dolphin kicking and basic freestyle stroke technique, plus other stroke techniques to become stronger in the water independently. Level 3 is recommended for ages 5 to 10

At this level, the swimmer has a basic knowledge and ability to perform the front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, dolphin kick, and elementary backstroke. Levels 4/5 are recommended for ages 6 to 12.
