Valley Central High School is well known throughout the Mid-Hudson Valley for its outstanding academic and athletic programs. We are proud of our student body and the many academic and extra-curricular accomplishments they receive each year. With a student body of about 1,350 students, Valley Central High School provides a well-rounded program that aims to meet the needs of each learner on their path to graduation and beyond.
A Valley Central Graduate is prepared to face the future with a skill set to guide them to success in any endeavor in life. The Valley Central Graduate is resilient and prepared for lifelong learning. They are equipped with problem-solving skills, are able to think creatively and innovatively, and can collaborate with others to join their place in the world as a global citizen.
The Valley Central High School building was the flagship project of the district’s centralization in 1959, the building itself was finished in 1961. It began as a junior and senior high school until the middle school was constructed. The original plan was a two-story square around an interior courtyard with one-story wings. In 1991, the new was constructed to add additional classroom space and an Olympic-sized swimming pool and in 1999 it was dedicated to a former principal, Victor Haggar, and is now known as the Haggar wing. The Haggar wing is shared with the middle school connecting the two buildings. In 2019, the building’s facade was given a facelift and now sports the new Viking crest. The entranceway and parking lot reconstruction and construction of new outside lavatory facilities will be completed in the future.
Our building has had many students pass through it who have gone on to careers in all walks of life, have settled near and far away, and have each defined what it is to be a Valley Central Viking.
