March 30, 2017 - Saturday school at Berea Elementary School
First-grade students in Ms. Addington, Hackett, Klein and Grimaldi's classes recently read the book, A Fine, Fine School by Sharon Creech. In that book, a principal is so pleased that his students are such excellent learners that he decides to begin holding school on Saturday (and then Sunday, and then holidays...) so that the students have even more opportunities to learn.
Coincidentally, a few days after reading A Fine, Fine School, Principal Solimando called the first-grade classes into the gym for an assembly where he announced that because Berea's first-grade students are such wonderful learners, he will be holding school on Saturdays so that the students have more opportunities to learn.
The students and teachers devised a plan to improve their persuasive writing skills and to get out of Saturday school. Did their plan succeed? Watch this video to find out:
