As the winter season is upon us, the district would like to remind our families of how to access information regarding school closings and delays due to inclement weather.
After the district determines that school will be closed or delayed, its first step is to send out a notification to all families who are signed up for the district’s notification system, SchoolMessenger. Therefore, SchoolMessenger is the most effective way for families to learn about school closings or delays, as subscribers receive notifications directly to their phones. Please note that this notification service is only available for families with children attending school in Valley Central School District, or for district employees. The district also posts any schedule changes on its website, www.valleycentralschools.org under the “announcements” tab, accessible by clicking “announcements” on the district’s homepage. (see photo)

The district will typically post a delay or closure on Facebook as a courtesy for families, but does not consider Facebook to be an “official” channel for emergency notifications. Therefore, it is important for district families to use one of the district’s many “official” channels – our SchoolMessenger notification system, the district’s website, or one of our media partners – in order to receive important information about school delays and closures.
