On Thursday, Jan. 21, Valley Central district officials became aware that six final cost reports for a capital project occurring between 2008-2011 was not properly filed with the State Education Department, resulting in state aid being withheld from the district.
District officials immediately contacted SED in order to resolve the issue. SED has assured the district that it will have amnesty from having to repay the total cost of the six projects provided the district completes and submits the missing paperwork by June 30, 2016. SED indicated that there would still be a penalty, but did not disclose how much it would be.
Valley Central is working closely with SED, Questar III State Aid Planning and the district’s architects to ensure that all necessary paperwork and procedures are followed in order to meet the June 30 deadline.
“We have taken immediate steps to correct the issue, and are working on procedural changes aimed at preventing such oversights from happening in the future,” Assistant Superintendent for Business Lisa Raymond said.
