Eight years ago, the New York State Legislature officially designated the third Tuesday of each November as School-Related Professionals Day – as a special day to honor and celebrate school related professionals. These countless individuals are an integral part of making our district run smoothly. They make certain safety is a top priority, ensure that students receive nutritious meals, keep the technology up and running, and help to provide the best education possible our students can receive. These unsung heroes make a positive difference in the lives of our students and provide support for our teachers and schools in more ways than can ever be imagined.
When you stop to think of every bus driver, hall monitor, nutritional staff member, secretary, paraprofessional, computer technician, custodian, nurse, or maintenance worker that you pass by every day, it is staggering to comprehend the many SRPs you encounter in just one day, let alone an entire school year. SRPs are responsible for employee personnel files. They process work orders and payroll, and pay invoices on the myriad of supplies that encompasses a typical school year. Secretaries and paraprofessionals are essential to the district. Their daily workload is insurmountable and sometimes there are not enough “Thank You’s” for all those times they stop what they are doing to answer a few questions or help out in the million ways that they do. Maintenance, custodial and technical staff members are always busy keeping the buildings in tip-top shape; up to date and technologically advanced. The rapidly changing world we live in demands so much time and effort to keep things current that these SRPs are busy year round. When it comes to breakfast and lunch, the nutritional support staff successfully handles what could be considered the craziest times that a school day has to offer. Health and safety are top priorities that SRPs provide. Our hall monitors, bus drivers, nurses, occupational and physical therapy assistants provide fundamental services to our students. This is just a small list of the many SRPs that are encountered in a single day.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! The immeasurable efforts of our SRPs do not go unnoticed or unappreciated. We thank them on School-Related Professionals Day and EVERY DAY for going above and beyond to meet the needs of our schools and our students. These School-Related Professionals make our mission of Putting Children Center both possible and highly effective. - Derek DeVoe, MS, VCTA Treasurer
