Alex Bonanno

My name is Alex Bonanno. I attend Valley Central High School and I am a senior.

The best part of my school day is seeing my friends, having class discussions, and going to sports practice.

The teachers at Valley Central make the time I have here special. They are not here to merely teach you academics. I have been taught many life lessons and have been given much advice on things that are happening in my life.

I plan on enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in the near future.

Callahan Family

My name is Angela Callahan.  My husband is Michael Callahan.  We have two sons in VC schools.  Oliver is in 7th grade on the blue team.  Tucker is in Mrs.Sahl’s 5th grade class at East Coldenham Elementary.  Prior to moving to Montgomery in 2010, we lived in South Carolina, upstate NY, and CT.  Our children had attended 3 different elementary schools before finally landing at EC.  We chose this area because VC had a reputation as a good school district. We love(d) that our boys attended EC.  It is a sweet, small school.  It doesn’t take long to get to know most, if not all, of the wonderful staff and EC families.

Oliver
“My favorite subject is Tech with Mr. Van.  I like tech because energy and power are areas I may want to pursue in a career someday.  I also enjoy learning more about computers.  I spend as many of my lunch periods in the tech room as possible.  It’s a great place.”
“The best part of my school day is 7th period Tech with Mr.Van.  I like all the different subjects covered.  I like that students have choices about what we choose to study in the classroom--i.e. ecology, energy & power, audio/video, CAD, computer graphics, etc.”
“The MS dances are fun.  My friends are what make VC special to me.”
 Tucker
“My favorite subject is social studies because it’s not math :) and because I like to learn about history.”
“The best part of the school day is lunch.  I like to take a break from working and eat.  I like that I can sit with my friends and talk.”

“I like EC because my teachers have all been very nice. I like playing chess in Mr.Heidemann’s office.  I like the assemblies and Mad Science.  I always have fun at Field Day and the school dances.”

Michael Bellarosa

My name is Michael Bellarosa and I am the Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics with the Valley Central School District.

After serving as a teacher, coach and administrator for many years at Cornwall Central High School, Tappan Zee High School, Minisink Valley and coaching at West Point and Villanova University, I returned home to Valley Central in 2008.

The best part of my job is working with parents and members of my home community, many of whom I went to school with almost 30 years ago, to help support student athletes at VC. Their many amazing accomplishments on the playing field and in the classroom are truly a reflection and constant reminder of the tremendous community we live in.

The Valley Central Community has been home to my family and me for 50 years and I am honored to serve as the District’s Athletic Director.

Carolyn Baker

My name is Carolyn Baker.  I am a sixth grade teacher at Valley Central Middle School.

This is my 28th year of teaching at V.C. Currently I teach science, but I have also taught Language Arts and Reading.  I am also a member of the district’s writing committee and a former member of the district’s mentoring team.

The best part of my job is the spark and energy I get from working with my students. They make me laugh. They make me wonder and awe right along with them. I love to be able to share something I find fascinating and then hear that they have shared it at home. I specifically tell my students to go home and share what we’ve learned (or a joke that has been told) with their families.  Moms have come up to me in Shop Rite and told me about a “Science Moment” they had with their child!  When I watch their eyes light up or see their heads nodding with a twinkle in their eye, I know it’s been a good day.

I also absolutely love the people I work with. My team, the 6th grade teachers and the entire staff of the Middle School are not just my colleagues, but my friends as well-a part of my extended family.

Valley Central is a special place to me.  It is more than just a job or the place in which I work.  It is my home.  I grew up here.  My parents were both educators here, and I went to school here.  The classroom I teach science in is the classroom where I learned science as a 7thgrader.  When I first started teaching here many of my former teachers were my new colleagues.  Now, many of my colleagues are former students of mine! How great is that?!   I love this community, and I love this district. Upon my retirement in 2018 I will be able to say that I was part of Valley Central for 45 years, and I wouldn’t want it any other way!

Marianne Serratore

My name is Marianne Serratore. I am the Principal of Montgomery Elementary School.

I have been employed by the Valley Central School District for close to 12 years. I began my career with Valley Central in 2002 as the Interim Principal of Walden. I became the Principal of Montgomery Elementary School in 2004 and have been in this position for almost 10 years.

The best part of my job is being surrounded by children on a daily basis. They are amazing individuals and never cease to amaze me. I love being a part of their educational journey and striving to make their experience a positive and meaningful one. I deeply value education and feel blessed to be able to work in this field.

Valley Central is special to me because of the wonderful people that make up this community. I work with a talented, intelligent and dedicated group of people who challenge me to be my best. The families that I have worked with are committed to their children’s education and are involved in the school on many levels. Valley Central is a very special place.

I was hired in April of 1993.  I started as a night custodian at Montgomery Elementary School.  I then moved to the High School in the same position.  I attended classes at night through BOCES to learn electrical theory and operations to work in my current position.

I enjoy my job.  I am proud to serve the district and provide services for the teachers, staff and students.

Valley Central is a great place to work.  Everyone I come into contact with treats me with respect.  It is a friendly atmosphere with a strong community involvement.

My name is Joan Babcock. I am a typist in the Human Resource/Pupil Services Department at Central Office.

My employment began in February of 2000 at Walden Elementary School as a front door greeter. I spent four years as a Kindergarten Paraprofessional before transferring to my current position at Central Office.

The best part of my job is being able to assist staff members, parents, and the public to the best of my abilities.

Knowing there are so many great opportunities for the students in this district and also being able to work with a terrific group of colleagues is what makes Valley Central special to me.
